JJ Redick criticized his players, except for LeBron James, for lack of effort and didn't want to talk about it a lot. Asked about his approach to fixing it, Redick cut the question short, got up, and left the press conference.

The Los Angeles Lakers handily lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. Lakers head coach JJ Redick didn't want to get into much detail about one aspect of the loss in the post-game press conference.

The rookie head coach emphasized the lack of effort in his first answers.

"I believe in the first half, they had 9 points after makes, where we either jogged back, we didn't get matched up, we stabbed at the ball twice. You know, talked a lot about, 'They're going to crash, they're going to send multiple guys.' Didn't really have good attention to detail," Redick said.

"There were segments in the game where I thought we did. Talked about not allowing the ball to come middle. You do. They run a wheel action, really good offense, killed us on that. Got corner threes, got back cuts, allowed the ball to get middle too much. So, you're going to lose."

Redick defended his players who missed a lot of three-pointers during the game, including D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Dalton Knecht, and Gabe Vincent, who combined for 6-for-31 from beyond the arc. The rest of the team shot 9-for-17.

LeBron James, meanwhile, had a dominant game with 39 points on efficient 15-for-24 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.

"I think LeBron was fantastic tonight. I had no idea he had 39. I'm not looking at box scores during the game. He played hard. He's almost 40 years old, played the hardest on our team. It says a lot about him," Redick said.

The coach was followed up with a question about the effort from the other players and was asked how satisfied he was about it.

"None of us are," Redick shortly said.

After answering a couple of questions about other matters, Redick was asked about his philosophy to address the effort of the entire squad as an issue. The 40-year-old specialist cut the question short.

"I just did," he said, got up, and left the press conference.
