Crvena Zvezda are about to add Nigerian forward Chima Moneke from Baskonia on a two-year deal.
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade continues its ambitious summer rebuild with the signing of Chima Moneke, one of the EuroLeague’s most sought-after forwards.
According to Eurohoops' Stavros Barbarousis, the Nigerian international is set to join the Serbian powerhouse on a two-year deal after spending the past season with Baskonia, where he showcased his trademark intensity and versatility on both ends of the floor.
The agreement comes after a competitive race for Moneke’s signature, with Zvezda overcoming strong interest from other EuroLeague contenders. Per the report, the deal was finalized following several rounds of negotiations, reflecting the club's determination to bring in high-impact talent for the 2024–25 campaign.
Moneke, 29, enjoyed a productive 2024–25 season with Baskonia. In EuroLeague play, he averaged 14.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 64.5% from two-point range and 81.3% from the free-throw line.
Moneke’s rise in European basketball has been swift and impressive. He was named MVP of the Basketball Champions League in the 2021–22 season and made a brief appearance in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings before returning to Europe. After a stint with AS Monaco in early 2023, he landed at Baskonia, where he solidified his standing as one of the league’s most complete forwards.
