Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens majority shareholder Dimitris Giannakopoulos has been sanctioned with a five-game ban from attending EuroLeague games and fined €10,000 for his threatening behavior toward referees during Friday's 76-82 semifinal loss to Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul.

As reported by BasketNews, Giannakopoulos aggressively confronted the referees at halftime of the Panathinaikos-Fenerbahce semifinal.

"It's really unfortunate," EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas said about the incident. "We had great fan behavior, with minor incidents, and I'm thankful for that. It's unfortunate that the situation with Mr. Dmitris occurred.

"He's very supportive of his team, and Panathinaikos is improving the arena and basketball experience, which deserves full credit. It's a shame that things turned out this way. We've made a decision, but again, it's unfortunate," Motiejunas added.

Additionally, the EuroLeague fined Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman €10,000 for an abnormal game interruption.

Furthermore, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and Fenerbahce were fined €10,000, €7,000, and €5,000, respectively, for offensive fan chants during the semifinals.
