NBA analyst Bill Simmons reports that veteran center Al Horford is about to sign with the Golden State Warriors, with league insiders treating the move as all but official.
After the Los Angeles Lakers signed free agent center Deandre Ayton, there aren't many proven big men left on the market—and the Golden State Warriors still need one.
According to NBA analyst Bill Simmons, however, Al Horford to the Warriors is essentially a done deal.
"Horford's going to Golden State," he said on his own The Bill Simmons Podcast.
"That's basically treated as a foregone conclusion around the league right now," added Rob Mahoney of The Ringer. "Everyone is assuming that Horford will be a Golden State Warrior, and we'll see if that ends up happening..."
"It's happening," Simmons confirmed.
Now a free agent after completing a two-year, $19.5 million contract with the Boston Celtics, the 18-year NBA veteran has drawn interest from several teams, including the Lakers.
Per Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Horford is a "top target" for the Dubs once talks began in earnest on Monday at 6 p.m. ET. Such reporting was echoed by The Athletic's Anthony Slater, who also said Monday that "many in the league continue to link Al Horford to the Warriors as a preferred target."

This past season, the 39-year-old Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 60 regular-season games, starting 42 of them. In the playoffs, he posted 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
A 2024 NBA champion and five-time All-Star, Horford has played for four teams in his career: the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
