The Los Angeles Lakers have reached a trade agreement with the Brooklyn Nets, sending D'Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round picks to Brooklyn in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.

Charania adds that the L.A. Lakers are sending their own second-round picks in 2027, 2030, and 2031 to the Nets.

According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, this trade provides the Lakers with essential wing depth and increased flexibility below the second apron.

The Lakers now have $3.5 million in space below the second apron, a significant improvement from the previous $30,000.

In terms of player contracts, Finney-Smith is set to earn $14.9 million this season and $15.4 million next season, while Shake Milton's contract is valued at $2.9 million for this season, $3 million next season (non-guaranteed), and $3.3 million in the final year (also non-guaranteed).

The Lakers land a versatile, 3-and-D addition with the 31-year-old Finney-Smith, who is shooting a career-high 44% from 3-point zone. L.A. also creates salary and luxury tax flexibility, saving $15 million.

The 28-year-old Milton, meanwhile, averages 7.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Russell, 28, returns to Brooklyn, where he played from 2017 to 2019. The NBA Cup champion and NBA All-Star (2019) has averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 assists this campaign.

Russell was leading the Lakers in plus-minus numbers.

Lewis has had 1.5 years with the Lakers in a minimal role. This season, the 22-year-old forward has registered 0.6 points per game. He was selected with the 40th pick in the 2023 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets, but his draft rights were traded to the Lakers.
